Meet the Team - Alex, the newest Apprentice Technician at Yeovil Audi
Yeovil Audi is proud to introduce Alex, one of our newest Apprentice Technicians, who joined the Audi Apprenticeship Programme just four months ago. With a lifelong passion for cars and a drive to turn that passion into a career, Alex represents the next generation of talented vehicle technicians making their mark within the Audi network.
A Childhood Passion Turned Career Path
For Alex, the dream of working with cars began early: “It’s the job everyone wants when they’re little – but for some people the interest goes away. For me, it never did.”
After pursuing that dream step by step, he now finds himself training with one of the most respected apprenticeship schemes in the automotive industry: “I couldn’t have made a better choice. I’m loving it.”
Why Yeovil Audi?
When asked why he chose Yeovil Audi, Alex didn’t hesitate: “Audi’s apprenticeship scheme came highly recommended. Friends of mine have done similar things and said Volkswagen Audi Group offers one of the best programmes out there.” His determination during the group interview made an impression. Within a week he was invited back for a formal interview, and soon after, he officially joined the team.
Hands-On Learning and Outstanding Support
The Audi Apprenticeship Programme spans three years and blends hands-on experience at Yeovil with specialist training weeks at Audi’s state-of-the-art facility in Milton Keynes. “They teach you everything, braking systems, suspension, engines. After each module you’re tested, and once you’ve passed, it proves you’ve got the knowledge to be a vehicle technician.”
At Yeovil Audi, Alex works closely with his mentor, Shane: “You’d struggle to find a question that Shane doesn’t know the answer to, he’s full of knowledge”. Importantly for Alex, he’s not just observing, he’s doing: “I have real freedom. I’m a hands-on learner, and they let me get properly involved.”
He also credits Workshop Manager Tim for his support and guidance: “Any questions I have, he’s always got the answers. It’s like a little family in the workshop. I felt like I fit in straight away.”
Looking Ahead: Specialist Training and Ambitious Goals
Once qualified, Alex hopes to continue building his expertise through additional Audi training: “I’d love to do specialist courses, like the RS performance training. The more skills I can gain, the further I can go.” His ambition is simple yet powerful: “I just want to see how far I can take this.”
Dream Audi? A Cult Classic
When asked which Audi he’d take home for a week, Alex didn’t go for something modern or digital, instead, he picked an icon: “The Audi RS 2 Avant. Old cars are my thing. It’s a Porsche-developed Audi family wagon… the coolest thing ever made.”
Life Outside the Workshop
Outside of work, Alex stays active and social. He used to be “pretty good at basketball” thanks to his height, and he’s heavily involved in the local car community, meeting friends, going to car meets, and enjoying the culture around automotive passion. “Anything to do with cars – fixing them, meeting people with cool cars. The whole community is friendly.”
A Bright Future at Yeovil Audi
Alex brings enthusiasm, curiosity, and determination to the Yeovil Audi workshop every day. We’re delighted to support him as he grows through the Audi Apprenticeship Programme and look forward to watching his career flourish.
